Animated GIF and APNG, frame by frame
Animated GIFs, APNGs and animated WebPs play as soon as you open them. Pause, step through them one frame at a time and save the frame you want as a PNG, or make a GIF of your own.
How to open it, step by step
- Install SeeAnyFile. It is free for Windows 10 and 11 and needs no account.
- Double-click the GIF, PNG or WebP; the animation plays.
- Press A to pause, then comma and period to step back and forward one frame.
- Save the frame on screen, or every frame, as PNG files.
What you can do with it
- Make an animated GIF or APNG from a set of pictures (Ctrl+Shift+G).
- Turn a clip of a video into a GIF.
- Flip through a folder of GIFs with the mouse wheel.
- Use the loupe (hold Z) to look closely at a frame.
Good to know
- GIF stores at most 256 colours per frame; APNG and WebP keep full colour and smooth transparency.
- Saved frames and new animations are new files; the original is never changed.
