Find photos by what is in them
Thousands of photos called IMG_1234 and you want the ones from the beach. Switch on Find photos by what is in them once, and SeeAnyFile's library finds pictures by what they show, in 15 languages, without sending a single photo anywhere.
How to do it, step by step
- Open Search files (Ctrl+Shift+F) and add the folders that hold your photos.
- Go to Settings › AI and recognition and switch on Find photos by what they show.
- Read the consent dialog and choose Agree and turn on. The photo model is downloaded once.
- SeeAnyFile reads your photos one at a time in the background and waits while you browse. You can pause the job and resume it later.
- Open the Library and type what you are looking for, like “beach” or “beach photos from 2023”. The best matches come first.
What you can do with it
- Search in your own language: Korean, English and 13 more.
- Combine it with dates and places, as in “beach photos from 2023”.
- File names still work: “IMG_1234” or “minutes.docx” stays a name search.
- When nothing matches, it says so plainly instead of showing the nearest pictures.
Where your file goes
Photos and search words never leave your PC. The only network use is the one-time model download from huggingface.co, which sends nothing but the request for the file and is checked against a fixed SHA-256. About 1 KB of numbers per photo is kept in the search index on this PC; switching the feature off deletes all of it, and the model too if you tick that box.
Good to know
- It is off until you switch it on, and nothing is read before you agree.
- Your photos are never changed; what was read lives only in the search index.
Questions
Where does it send my photos?
Nowhere. Photos are read on your PC, and the words you search for are turned into numbers on your PC too.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the model has been downloaded, searching and reading new photos need no internet.
Which photos does it read?
The photos in the folders you added to search, RAW previews included. A photo it cannot read is skipped and counted, and the rest carry on.
