Convert Hangul (HWP) files to PDF

Someone needs your .hwp as a PDF, or you want to share one with people who have no Hangul. SeeAnyFile makes the PDF on your PC: through Hancom Office when it is installed, so it looks like the original, or through its own converter, which carries the text and tables.

How to do it, step by step

  1. Install SeeAnyFile (free for Windows 10 and 11, no account) and open the .hwp or .hwpx file. You can read and search it before converting.
  2. Click Save as PDF on the toolbar. In File Explorer you can also right-click one or more files and choose SeeAnyFile › Make PDF (on Windows 11, under Show more options).
  3. The dialog names the program it will use: Hancom Office Hangul when it is installed, otherwise SeeAnyFile's built-in converter. You can pick the other one.
  4. Click Save as PDF. Each file shows its result: the new PDF to open, or the reason in a sentence.
  5. The PDF is saved beside the HWP file, as “name (1).pdf” if the name is taken. The HWP file itself is never changed.

What you can do with it

  • Convert many HWP and HWPX files in one go, as one job you can pause and resume.
  • Keep the fonts, colours, layout and pictures when Hancom Office is installed.
  • Without Hancom Office, still get the headings, paragraphs, lists and tables, with Korean set in the system's Korean font.
  • Choose the paper size the built-in converter uses.

Where your file goes

The conversion runs entirely on your PC and the file is not uploaded anywhere. Hancom Office works on a private copy with macros switched off, and a Hangul window you already have open is never touched.

Good to know

  • A password-protected HWP is found before the conversion starts; save an unlocked copy first.
  • If Hangul stops to ask for permission to access the file, registering Hancom's automation security module lets it convert without asking.
  • The built-in converter leaves pictures out and says how many it left out.

Questions

Do I need Hancom Office to convert HWP to PDF?

No. Without it, SeeAnyFile's built-in converter makes the PDF with the text and tables in order. With Hancom Office installed, the PDF keeps the original fonts, colours, layout and pictures.

Is my HWP file uploaded to a website?

No. Everything happens on your computer, and the file never leaves it.

Does SeeAnyFile use LibreOffice for HWP?

No. HWP and HWPX go through Hancom Office or the built-in converter. LibreOffice, when installed, is used for Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.
